After 10 years of working as a physiotherapist, David Beckwée (°1979) obtained his PhD in 2015. He is currently appointed as professor at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. He is member of the ‘Frailty in Ageing’ research group and chairs the ‘Musculoskeletal Research in Ageing’ research line of the Rehabilitation Research group. His research focuses on unravelling the mechanisms that explain the beneficial effects of exercise on both pain and the ageing muscle (sarcopenia). He obtained more than €1.000.000,- of research funding and supervises 7 PhD students. Besides numerous scientific papers, he co-authored 2 handbooks for clinicians.
